If you write fiction, chances are you’ll say, “Yeah! Exactly!”
If you don’t, you’ll just think I’m nuts.
The other day I interviewed one of my characters in a current work-in-progress. I needed to get a feel for Mary Ann in the next scene I planned to write, one that takes place in a hospital.
So off to my imaginary hospital I went.
Mary Ann stomped across the waiting room floor, shoved her finger in my face, started to say something, then turned and walked away. As she marched back and forth, she made it clear, in no uncertain terms, she did not like where I was taking the story. My character, whom I created, then shut down and refused to be interviewed.
Crazy talk, right?
But that’s the life of a novelist. And, like I said, if you write fiction, you’ve got that knowing smile plastered across your face about now.
And, for non-writers, you can see how others might think we’re crazy when we talk about going HOME or conversing with the ONE.
In the minds of many, we’re all just a few bubbles off center, heads in the clouds, not of any earthly good. We’re either a bunch of harmless kooks or some major you-better-lock-’em-up nut jobs. Can we say, “Cult?”
So how does your talking with God differ from my interview attempt with Mary Ann (she acts like she’s won an Academy Award or something)? How can you be certain HOME, the place our hearts hunger for, even exists? And why, even if we believe in God and heaven, would we talk about these things with anyone else?
This week I want to focus on the JOURNEY and what markers we have as we travel HOME which help us along the path. So let’s continue on the JOURNEY HOME.
QUESTION: What kind of crazy talk have you heard? Or spoken!
