Music!
I hear music in my head. Gorgeous music, joyful music, fantastic you-never-heard-this-before music, the kind of music that would make your heart dance.
I have only two problems (only two? That’d be my wife’s response).
First, in my head doesn’t mean on my lips. Even with popular songs, ones everyone knows, I have a hard time getting tunes and words right. I’m no song leader. Pure follower here and glad to be even that.
Although I’m pretty certain I could lead “Jesus Loves Me” without much prompting.
“Happy Birthday?” Probably. Maybe. Well, I’m not so sure about that one.
My second problem happens the moment I wake up. See, I hear full symphonies in my dreams—strings, woodwinds, brass, the whole orchestra. The residue from such a dream is a strong sense of pleasure and well-being. The music bounces around in my soul and puts a big grin in my heart.
But, and this is a big but (as opposed to a big butt, which my wife says I don’t have but a big gut, well…oh, yeah, to the point), I don’t remember a single note.
Those dreams and the special warmth they leave in their wake seem to come from a place far beyond me. I’m neither that talented nor imaginative. At least not without some help. From the ONE.
So where do amazing dreams begin? At HOME? I believe so.
The Bible says, “Every good and perfect gift is from above (can we say, HOME?), coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights…” (James 1:17a, NIV).
I call these moments leaks. Something good leaks out and we enjoy HOME’S pleasures.
Leaks bring joy.
Leaks bring hope.
Leaks bring laughter.
Leaks bring love.
Gracious love.
Generous love.
Never-runs-out love.
Welcome-HOME love.
So music leads me HOME. It speaks of something more and something better and something great.
And that’s why I don’t think it’s crazy talk when someone converses with the ONE who leads us on the JOURNEY HOME. In fact, I think it’s crazy not to talk to the ONE.
QUESTION: Where does the pleasure of HOME leak into your life?
Sunrise, sunset, a good friend, a song, the WORD, a child. The leaks come from everywhere. Sometimes we are just to busy to enjoy them. I too love to wake to songs in my head….much nicer than some dreams. Hymns…..psalms in the night.
These are good leaks……. do we ever leak? Mary J
Glad to hear I’m not the only one who hears music in my dreams. You’ve offered up some good places, MJ, to spot leaks.
Cool blog! And I like the theme!
Thanks, Brandon. Not quite Columbus stuff, but you know what that first step feels like.
